Learn how to activate and set up the Nanit Insights Plan to get detailed sleep tracking, trends, and analysis for your baby.

The Nanit Smart Baby Monitor does more than show you a live video feed. With the Insights Plan, you get detailed sleep tracking, breathing analysis, and long-term trends that help you understand your baby’s sleep patterns. Setting it up is straightforward, but a few key steps ensure you get accurate data from day one.

Whether you use the Breathing Wear Pajamas or the Breathing Band, the monitor’s camera tracks your baby’s chest movements and translates them into sleep metrics. This guide walks you through activating the Insights Plan, pairing it with your monitor, and interpreting the data so you can make informed decisions about your baby’s sleep.

Activate the Insights Plan

Before you can see any sleep data, you need to activate the Insights Plan. Open the Nanit app on your phone and navigate to the settings menu. Tap on “Insights Plan” and follow the prompts to purchase or start a free trial. The plan is linked to your account, not to a specific monitor, so you can use it with multiple Nanit units if you have the Smart Baby Monitor Multi-Pack.

Once activated, the app will ask you to confirm your baby’s date of birth and typical sleep environment. This information helps the algorithm calibrate its analysis. You can update these details later if needed, but entering them correctly at setup improves accuracy from the start.

  • Make sure your Nanit monitor is connected to Wi-Fi before starting the activation process.

Connect the Breathing Wear or Band

For the monitor to track breathing and sleep, your baby needs to wear a Nanit Breathing Wear product. The Breathing Wear Pajamas and the Breathing Band both have a printed pattern that the camera recognizes. Simply dress your baby in the pajamas or wrap the band around their chest, ensuring the pattern is visible and not covered by a blanket.

The camera will automatically detect the pattern once the baby is in the crib. If you’re using the Breathing Wear Quilted Sleeping Bag, make sure the pattern is on the front and not twisted. The monitor’s night vision works with all patterns, so you don’t need extra light.

  • Avoid using loose blankets or sleep sacks that might obscure the breathing pattern.

View and Analyze Sleep Data

After the first night, open the Nanit app and tap the “Insights” tab. You’ll see a dashboard with your baby’s total sleep time, number of wake-ups, and breathing rate. The app also shows a sleep timeline so you can see when your baby was in deep sleep versus light sleep.

Over time, the Insights Plan builds trends that highlight changes in sleep patterns. You can compare week-over-week data and even export reports to share with your pediatrician. The “Home 8” Display also shows a simplified version of the sleep timeline, but the full analysis is best viewed on your phone.

  • Check the Insights tab each morning to spot any unusual patterns early.

Setting up Nanit Insights takes only a few minutes, but the payoff is a deeper understanding of your baby’s sleep. By activating the plan, using the right Breathing Wear, and checking the data regularly, you’ll get the most out of your Nanit monitor. If you ever need to adjust settings, the app’s help section has detailed guides for every feature.
